A small, quiet seaside town just a century ago, Dubai has turned into a city that is futuristic in some of its modern architecture, while retaining some of its tradition in the backstreets.
While approaching Dubai from the air, it is once again obvious how man is able to live anywhere, to adapt to local circumstances and modify those circumstances to his own needs. After flying over a seemingly endless desert, hours of uninhabited yellow sand below, suddenly you see apparently new asphalt roads, oasis, houses with swimming pools, before touching down at one of the most modern airports in the world. As you exit the building, the heat jumps down on your shoulders and slows your pace. From there, it is a short hop to the city centre.
