The city's best known landmark, the Duomo is a must-see on a visit to Milan.
Construction of this typical building started in 1386, and the structure still stands proud in marble and with thousands of statues. Each spire on the cathedral has a statue on top, and then as you get closer you discover there are many more in the sides. Of course, it is impossible to stay outside. The inside is completely different: the ceiling appears much higher than you would have thought, while light trickles through the enormous leaded windows.
