Probably the most impressive building in the government area, Westminster houses the English parliament.
The building is situated directly on the river Thames. Westminster Hall, directly adjacent to the Big Ben, is the oldest building, construction of which started in the 11th century. Parliament first met here in 1265. All buildings survived the great fire of London as well as World War II bombardments, and have grown to become the symbols of British government.
