Charming old streets and alleys, shops and restaurants, views of Stockholm harbour, Gamla Stan is deservedly one of the primary attractions of the Swedish capital.
Gamla Stan is one of the primary attractions of Stockholm. It is conveniently located right in the middle of the capital, and can easily be explored on foot. Actually, that's perhaps the only or at least best way to get to know this part of Stockholm. Gamla Stan's prime importance is its age, and in fact, it means nothing more or less than old town. This old town lives up to your imagination of one: narrow stone alleys meandering below the tall buildings, arches leading to still narrower alleys, old lanterns lighting the way for passers-by - not unimportant for a city this far north!
